Description
I took this image of 6 aspen trunks with their gnarly weathered bark, carved initials, and several “eyelids” on my walk around Mesa Lake in the Grand Mesa National Forest. They are all small to medium-sized trunks but over a span of 50 to 100 years, they can grow up to 125 feet tall. These aspens grow as a family unit, constantly sending out new shoots. So, when you see a grove of aspen, it is likely all the same root system.
